The New Zealand Road Transport Industry Awards were announced earlier this week at the end of the 2016 RTF Conference in Tauranga. The NZ Road Transport Industry Awards were one of the highlights of the two-day conference. Forum chief executive Ken Shirley says, “The annual awards recognise individuals and organisations that have gone above and beyond industry expectations in raising skills, safety practices, knowledge, training, innovation and expertise.”

In April this year NZ Bus announced a $43 million deal to retrofit its iconic Wellington trolley buses with the Wrightspeed electric powertrain, bypassing diesel hybrid technology to go straight to electric. NZ Bus, under its chief executive Zane Fulljames, became the first major transport company in New Zealand to make such a move. The whole team at NZ Bus won this award for their innovative thinking and courage to invest in such cutting edge technology.
