NSW Sony DADC Site Visit – Thursday, 24th August

We had another successful SCLAA site tour at Sony DADC Erskine Park. Some of the highlights of the tour included an overview of the incoming goods and bulk storage and picking process, pick to light operation and conveyor system that weighs each carton leaving the DC for freight weight and order integrity confirmation.

Facts around volumes for added perspective, 65 million units are shipped from the DC annually, 27,000 SKU’s are managed and approximately 5000 PO’s are processed per day, (3k during low trading and 10k during peak).

Making MRO Supply Chains Relevant in a Digital Economy

There was a fabulous turnout of members and associates of multiple associations for the joint ASCI/SCLAA and SCLAA and Michael Page sponsored Roy Hill event at Crown on 26th July.

Following opening introductions from Steven Murdoch and Brian Lynn (WA Presidents of ASCI and SCLAA respectively),and Ryan Lanzon (Associate Director, Michael Page) the main event began.

Mike Lomman (GM Demand Chain) and Indrasen Naidoo (Director Supply Chain) delivered a polished joint presentation on Roy Hill’s System Thinking and “Making MRO Supply Chains Relevant in a Digital Economy”, and Karen Livey, an International Keynote Speaker followed up with an introduction to ‘Managing change with a Neuroscience lens.

What was self-evident to all attending was the shared commitment within the Roy Hill team to the corporate objective to do things differently and better. Core to this was the concept of an Integrated Operating Model, supported by cutting edge technology (SAP 4HANA).

After the presentations refreshments arrived, networking started, questions flowed all presenters were generous with their time.

Amanda O’Brien – Australian Institute of Business

Amanda O’Brien is a Transport & Logistics Professional and the CEO and Managing Director of Australian Worldwide Logistics Pty Ltd trading as Xtreme Freight with head office based in Melbourne. Amanda’s particular expertise is in strategy and solving logistical challenges for Global Freight Forwarders and increasing efficiencies in the supply chain through strong partnerships and transparent analysis. Her belief is that developing people’s talents is fundamental to achieving great results and that flexibility and outside the box thinking is the greatest catalyst for change which is essential in keeping up with globalisation.

Past experience in diverse fields ranging from Telecommunications, Airlines and Retail holding both management and procurement roles has seen Amanda involved in projects that return investment to companies with people at the core. Changing the image, increasing the efficiencies and developing seamless logistical solutions for clients in the Transport & Logistics sector is fundamental to her philosophy.

Thought Leadership Series – “How will autonomous vehicles, drones and AI change the transport and logistics industry in the future?”

The SCLAA hosted its 3rd Thought Leadership event for 2017 on Wednesday 2nd August at Honey Bar in South Melbourne. The buzz and excitement in the room was evident throughout the evening. We had a fantastic turnout with over 60 attendees to hear from industry experts on what the future of autonomous vehicles, drones and AI looks like for the transport and logistics industry. Thankyou to Mark Tipping, Bernard Lee and Matthew Lloyd for speaking and the SCLAA committee for their hard work in making this event run smoothly.
