Early on a wet and windy 30th of May a much in demand visit to Linfox’s Hazelmere resources industry hub. Expertly hosted by several of the Linfox/FMG team, the party, restricted to 30 SCLAA members due to site safety rules, was treated to an overview of Linfox and its resources operations, refreshments, a site tour and plenty of opportunity for networking. Michael Hogg, FMG Contract Manager, delivered an in depth and informative presentation covering subject matter ranging from Linfox’s origins, through its expansion into WA and Asia, the specifics of its resources operations, focussing on Hazelmere, to its future plans. Items of interest included:

  • 20,000 employees, 5,000 vehicles, 3.8m sq.m warehousing
  • Reduction of customer base to focus on serving these core customers well
  • Strategy to own assets and resources rather than to sub-contract
  • Expansion into Asia Pacific, with associated challenges, such as spreading the safety culture into the Asian continent
  • Linfox’s LeanFox, GreenFox and VISIONZERO programs.
  • Dramatic reduction in LTI since 2006
  • 50% emission reduction from 2006 to 2015
  • Focus on growth through excellence of service rather than through advertising
  • Collaboration with SAP in development of TM9 transportation module
  • Five business units including one dedicated to resources
  • Resources revenue growth from $120m in 2008 to projected $350m in 2013
  • Partnerships with FMG, BHP and NickelWest at Hazelmere and Chevron at Henderson
  • Future growth prospects in iron ore and LNG
  • Development of regional sites in WA
  • Hazelmere 8ha site already at capacity, with plans for new Bullsbrook 20ha location
